Project 3
DUO student loan payback system redesign
Group members: Eline van den Wildenberg, Mila van Rijs, Rob Molenman, Sytze van der Wolk, and me.
Duration: 6 months
Goal
The goal of this project was to redesign an existing product: the DUO student loan payback system. Using the data collected during user testing, we created a redesign of that part of the website and evaluated this for future recommendations. We presented this to DUO.
My contribution
My focus during the project was mainly on the ideation and the research, such as preparing and conducting user tests. I also created an animation to explain the payback system to new users. Scan the QR-code to see the animation.

The final product
Qualitative research showed the fear and nervousness users felt when dealing with debt issues. It also highlighted the perceived distance between users and DUO. The main focus in the redesign was clearness, usability improvements, and a personal connection between the user and DUO to improve the relation.
The old vs the redesign
See the old design above on the right. It shows a lot of information with limited clarity. On the left is the homepage of our redesign, separated into sections to provide users with clarity into which actions they can take in which section. The top image of this page is the introductory page for new ex-students that are starting to pay off their debt. This has the goal to familiarise them with the environment and to help explain what they can expect while they are paying their debt.
